Kingman County has been awarded $1 million toward the cost of replacing the Dale 20 Ninnescah River bridge, which was destroyed by fire in 2016.
The money is from a federal program for off-system bridges administered by the Kansas Department of Transportation. The county has applied for funding from the program in the past but this is the first time it has received money.
The estimated replacement cost of the bridge is $1,265,628. The county must provide 20 percent in matching funds but was the only county to get the maximum award from the program.
