About the Program
WIC is a Special
Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children. It
serves to safeguard the health of low-income women, infants, and
children up to age 5 who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious
foods. The program works to supplement diets, provide information on
healthy eating, and gives referrals to health care.
Persons Eligible
WIC supplies extra food and nutrition education for:
Children - 1 - 5 years old
Infants - under 1 year old
Pregnant women
New mothers - breastfeeding mothers up to 1 year
Eligibility requirements for WIC are:
Income - Household income is less than 185% of the poverty level. Income eligibility varies depending on the number of people in your household.
Residency - You must live in Kansas.
You must be pregnant, breastfeeding, postpartum woman, infant, or child up to 5 years old.
