Drivers Will Use Alternate Route During Bridge Construction

Work on the new Smoots Creek/Midway bridge is scheduled to begin July 17. Drivers will need to use an alternate route during construction, which is not expected to be complete until June 2018.

The new bridge is located just south of the K-14/US-54 interchange on NE 100th Ave. King Construction of Hesston submitted the winning bid of $1,649,827.30. This project has been on the county commission’s radar for a while. It will be funded via a general obligation bond.

Here is the alternate route to be used during construction of the bridge:

  • Drivers on US-54: take the NW 70th Ave. exit south to NE 10th St. (old 54 highway), and back east to NE 100th Ave.
  • Northbound on NE 100th Ave.: go west on NE 10th St. to NW 70th Ave., then north to US-54; drive east on the highway and take the K-14 exit back to NE 100th Ave.
  • Southbound on NE 100th Ave.: exit at K-14 to US-54, go west on the highway to NW 70th Ave., exit the highway and drive south to NE 10th St., then back east to NE 100th Ave.
